Introduction:\
\
Thank you for downloading this level for LR2. This pack should consist of a single level, 'Enigma Variations'. This level has been tested thoroughly to ensure that it can be completed. This level was also created for the new concept of the 'LR2 Level Exchange'. If you play a level you like, write a quick level and send it back to the author and the wider LR2 community!\
\
\
Instructions:\
\
The level is divided into two distinct stages. The first simply involves collecting all the gold that is immediately available to the player. This should be reasonably straightforward. The second section is longer and takes the player on a circular route to the exit. This section is essentially a 'variation' on the first, taking the ideas used there and modifying them into slightly different, and slightly more difficult, guises.\
\
Challenge:\
\
For those who find this type of puzzle level straightforward, I have hidden two further extra lives on this level on top of the obvious one in the first section. See whether you can find them\
\
Clues:\
\
This is a moderately difficult level, and essentially revolves about a central core puzzle. Once you have solved this, you should be able to traverse most of the level with a little monk dodging. The extra life and its position in the first section is a clue. Look at what else the final trigger of the first section causes to appear. You will need to reach this section, but you have most likely not activated a pressure plate much earlier in the level that will make this possible. This plate is found in one of the few places in the level where it is completely invisible.\
The best way to defeat the monks is to trap them on a narrow strip of bricks. You can then deal with the monks in turn without being attacked from all sides. It is not at all necessary to use the invisibility power-up in the first section, although it is tempting. You may want to save it for the second.\
The route to the centre of the maze is through the object that disappears near that centre, although probably not in the direction you might think.\
If you become stuck on the 'timed run', look for an invisibly trigger using symmetry on the final pylon where the path appears to stop.\
\
Editing Tricks:\
\
There are two tricks that I used this level partly to display. The first is simply that objects such as exit doors, invisible tiles and shadows can support switches and ladders that are fully functional while remaining fully functional. This can be done by placing the appropriate tile using the paint tool, selecting the tile using the hand tool and then clicking on the ladder button. As a slight word of warning, the player can run straight through switches into the exit door once it opens, apparently becoming transparent.\
The second trick used on the level is slightly more subtle. It is due to the tile that looks like a combination of a thin checkerboard tile with the top of the head of the statue on top of the exit wormhole. This was done by noting a tile ten Z spaces below another tile will *exactly* superpose over it. You are actually standing on the statue's head tile, complete with yellow ladder. The checkerboard tile is ten Z spaces below, and also supports a yellow ladder. This produces the illusion that the two tiles are merged. It is important to note that the 'upper' tile will appear above the 'lower' tile if the graphics overlap at any point. This idea can be used to 'merge' many different sets of tiles together with different consequences.\

Many thanks to the following people, who helped keep me motivated to get this project completed:\
\
Jason Summers - Jason's superb website is an excellent archive of all things Lode Runner. It unfortunately is no longer being updated, but it still contains a lot of useful information about the entire sires, and especially about LR2. You can find my previous level set on this site, as well as several interesting Easter Eggs and additional levels created by Presage

\
Sophie Janacek - I failed to mention my sister in the documentation for 'Hugo's LR2 Levels', another set I released some time ago. The level, 'For Sophie', was dedicated to her. My sister has always been very supportive of my projects, and has been a wonderful example. I doubt that many of my works would have been created without her support.\
\
Thanks also to any who I have forgotten who have helped make this level and my other sets possible.\
\
Other Work:\
\
If you liked this level set, please feel free to download my other released set, 'Hugo's LR2 Levels' from the Lode Runner Archive. These comprise very difficult levels, much more so than this level. \
\
My major released work is 'The Midnight Suite', a set of seven small puzzle levels all written in a distinctive style. These levels are all perfectly playable and very enjoyable, demonstrating a few other effects of triggers that are not demonstrated in this set. If you liked the central puzzle in Enigma, there are many more like then in this set. You can download this level set by joining the LodeRunner group at Yahoo. This requires creating a Yahoo user, but this has caused me no trouble at present. The web address of the club is below. 'The Midnight Suite' can be found in the 'Files' section of the website:\

\
I have one vast level that I am creating a present called 'Four' set in the World Hub, a level that really stretches possible level file sizes, and pushes the use of Triggers to the limit. I also have a few other short ideas that are in development, including a short tribute to M.C. Escher.\
