Lode Runner '07

Introduction

Thanks for downloading Lode Runner '07. I hope you enjoy the game!

System Requirements

You can play Lode Runner '07 on Windows, Mac or Linux. If you are playing on Windows, you can download the binary version and just run the executable file. If you have Linux or Mac, you will need the following installed:

You can probably also find these in the repositories on Linux. I haven't used a Mac, so I don't know what alternate install options might exist there.

Controls

You can use the keyboard or a joystick / gamepad to play Lode Runner '07. You can edit the controls from the main menu.

Lode Runner '07 does require that you use the arrow keys for movement if you play using the keyboard.

Level Editor

The level editor is fairly simple.

First you will want to paint your level. To select a tile to use, hold the right mouse button down; now, you will see the tilesheet. While holding the right mouse button, click any tile to select it. Then, you can left-click anywhere on the map to paint with that tile.

You can reset the map by going to File -> Map Settings -> Reset Map. In the Map Settings submenu, you can also increase the width or the height of the map.

Edit does nothing. Sorry. :)

After you have painted your level, you will want to apply some collision settings to the map. To apply collision, first select the type of collision you want to apply. For instance, you might select "Ladder Tile." Now, you will want to middle-click on one of the ladder tiles on the map. After you do that, every tile of that visual type (e.g., all ladder tiles on the map) will become a ladder tile. The same applies for each other collision brush type (not including "Place Beacon" or "Add Enemy" of course).

You can use Place Beacon to move Beacons around. Beacons determine where the player and the bad guys will appear. (You can also use them to pan the camera before the level begins, but that's slightly advanced. You can study the later levels' script files to see how I did that if you're truly interested.) If you are using the "Beacon Brush," as I might call it, then middle-clicking on the map will place the currently selected Beacon at the place you click. If you are in Beacon Brush mode, then mousing over a Beacon will select that Beacon.

The "Add Enemy" brush creates a Beacon and generates the short script command to place a bad guy at that Beacon. Try not to put too many enemies in your level or it will become very difficult to complete. :) If you decide you want to put an enemy in a different location, use the "Beacon Brush" described in the previous paragraph.

You can mostly ignore the "Script" submenu. Clicking Edit will bring up the Script editor window. You can change author "Unknown" to author "Yourname" if you'd like. Make sure to keep the quotes around your name, though.

To save your map, just enter the name you'd like to save it as; then click 'Save Map.' You will see a confirmation message in the upper-right corner of the window. Warning: If you use a name of an already-existing level, you will overwrite that level!

Sharing your Levels

You can share the file in the /data/share/ directory with friends so they can play your level as well. You should also place downloaded levels in that directory yourself; the game will automatically detect those new levels when you go to load a new level.

If you'd like, you can send me levels you create to mike@psyguygames.com. If you don't want to bother with the Script editing thing, I can add in your name for you so you get full credit. :)
