Getting Loded
Another Lode Runner clone has been released. Named exactly after the original, this clone looks a little better than most games of its ilk, thanks to the use of backgrounds and decent level art. Game play is accurately replicated, and even the main character looks and runs just like in the first incarnation of 20 years ago.

Although the levels are well designed and challenging, the game does have a few quirks that lead me to think it may have been rushed out the door a bit before it was finished. For one thing, the sound effects are a little underdone and may have been culled from other software. For example, when you die, you hear the sound of glass breaking, which is remarkably similar to a sound effect used in the instant messaging program ICQ when someone adds you to their contact list. Another thing I noticed is that you hear the sound confirming that you've picked up a gem long before your character "touches" it and it disappears. Speed is also an issueyou get the usual loading icon between levels, and the game slows down noticeably as the levels get more complex. The original Lode Runner ran perfectly on machines with a megahertz rating you could count on one hand, and there's just something about seeing it struggle on a 400 MHz machine that doesn't seem right.

= Me and lode runner go way back to the old, nearly 14 years ago, apple era. It was one of the best games I had on that rig and when I got my first pc it was also one of my fonds. No wonder I was glad I got to review this great game.

= My final thoughts are that Ball Shooter have given us Lode Runner without making the mistake of jazzing it up with unnecessary visual enhancements or complicating it with extra features...

= Ballshooter has re-incarnated an 80s game and introduced Load Runner. Being based on an 80s game, it is simple and fun to play, but does the game stop there? The game has a few elements that are make it exciting and challenging even for serious gamers of today...
